Ample Electric provided electrical support services to a trade partner during the replacement and rehabilitation of the primary visitor barge at Alcatraz Island, a high-profile and operationally sensitive site managed to accommodate continuous public access.
The scope of work included the safe disconnection of electrical utilities from the existing permanent barge prior to its removal and transport for rehabilitation. Ample Electric then installed and commissioned electrical connections for a temporary replacement barge to maintain uninterrupted operations and visitor access to the island.
Upon completion of the rehabilitation, Ample Electric returned to the site to remove temporary systems and re-establish permanent electrical service to the rehabilitated barge, ensuring full operational functionality.
All work was executed during nighttime operations to avoid disruption to daily tourism activities, requiring precise coordination, logistical planning, and adherence to strict site constraints associated with working on Alcatraz Island.
Not every contractor can say they’ve spent the night on Alcatraz—let alone twice—but for Ample Electric, delivering critical infrastructure under unique conditions is part of the job.
